New Carnival terminal in the port of Barcelona

The multinational Carnival Corporation has signed a agreement with the Port Authority of Barcelona to invest more than 30 million euros in the construction and start-up of its second private cruise terminal.

Currently, seven of the ten cruise brands that the company has use the Port of Barcelona as their destination and main port.

According to the agreement signed on July 23, the Port Authority granted Carnival Corporation administrative concessions to start up the cruise terminal and the new parking facilities. In particular they will be 300 public squares, And not just for Carnival users.

At this moment, the final design process is underway and works will begin for the new terminal, which is scheduled to open for the beginning of 2018 in the pier of the Port of Adossat. This terminal will become one of the largest in Europe with 11.500 square meters of built area.

The Port of Barcelona has six terminals, that during the first half of 2015 received more than a million cruise passengers, which represents an increase of 6% compared to the previous year. In 2014 they received the visit of 764 cruise ships, which implies a movement of 2,36 million passengers. According to studies carried out by the Barcelona Tourist Office in 2013, cruise passengers had an economic impact of almost 257 million euros in the city of Barcelona.

In another vein Carnival Cruise Line has expanded its marketing team, the company Mia Landrin will be in charge of directing the new commercial team that will have to work towards achieving Carnival's goal of working with 40.000 travel agents.
