Cunard celebrates 50 years since the launch of QE2

This year marks the 50th anniversary that Cunard's flagship Queen Elizabeth II, QE2, started up and the company has already been preparing and advancing some of the special activities it has prepared.

On September 8, 2017, a special voyage will begin from the port of Southampton aboard the 17-night luxury cruise ship Queen Elizabeth, upon its return, it will be exactly fifty years since the launch by Queen Elizabeth II of QE2, thus ending the celebrations.

Before continuing I remind you that the QE2 was retired from Cunard's active duty on November 27, 2008.

The events and activities that have been programmed to celebrate these 50 years focus on five special themed days, each of which will be accompanied by menus inspired by the mythical ship and those that have already been served. Added to this will be the special guest talks, historical snippets, past passenger meetings and quizzes related to the Queen Elizabeth II.

Some of the topics that will be discussed are related to the link between the British royal family and the shipping company itself, Las Malvinas, when the ship served in the 1982 conflict transporting 3000 soldiers and 650 volunteers to the South Atlantic. Another of the conferences will deal with the history of the "first" of Cunard and World Flagship in tribute to the 26 cruises around the world of this ship, which made it an icon in cities on all continents (in the photograph you can see it in Lisbon in 2008).

The Queen Elizabeth 2 carried 2,5 million passengers throughout its history with a total journey of more than 5,6 million miles what is beyond any passenger ship.

Without a doubt this is a trip for nostalgic people but with all the comforts and luxury of the XNUMXst century.
