Some time ago I named you the project Ecoship, a boat that will be developed by the NGO Peace Boat to reduce emissions by 40% compared to boats of similar dimensions and some people who follow this blog have asked me to tell a little more about this project.

Ecoship is a boat that, once finished, begins to be built next year, It will house some 2.000 passengers in 750 cabins. When it starts up in 2020 it will visit around 100 ports a year, offering its passengers a program of activities focused on experiential learning and intercultural communication, within the values of sustainable cruises.

The design of this boat, which you can see in the photograph, is inspired by whales, And with that alone, it is possible to save 5 percent of fuel. Curiously, the NGO Peace Boat is Japanese, a country that continues to hunt whales.

Ecoship is a green ocean liner, which will use 100% ecological energy. To obtain this energy, 10 large retractable sails have been included, wind turbines with 300 kW of power, on the upper deck, which in turn are made up of solar panels that will supply more energy to the ship. Regarding the machinery, the engineers who are working on its design affirm that Your LNG hybrid engine will only be used when there are no suitable wind and sun conditions. The excess heat from the engine will be used to power the heating and air conditioning system, this represents a 50% saving in energy consumption.

During trips, no waste will be generated, because food waste will be transformed into compost, and a 900 m3 garden has been designed from which part of the ingredients for the menus will be obtained.

Peace Boat is an international non-profit NGO whose headquarters are in Japan. Its aims are to promote peace, human rights, fair and sustainable development and respect for the environment. Peace Boat carries out its main activities by organizing educational trips for peace aboard a ship.
