Amazing adventure trip on a Viking ship

This article is not exactly about a cruise vacation, whether adventure or family, but about a project of 32 people, men and women, lovers of the sea and exploration trips. Who knows if an adventure travel company will include it in their catalog next year.

I tell you. Through social networks I have learned that an exact reproduction of a Viking ship is making a journey to show that the Norse were the first to reach things in America more than a thousand years ago. The promoter of this trip is the owner businessman Sigurd Aase.

On April 24, the Draken Harald Harfagre in homage to Harald I of Norway, the first king of the Nordic country, undertook his 5-week journey from Norway to Newfoundland and Labrador, with stops in Iceland and Greenland.

Construction began on the Draken Harald Harfagre ship in 2010, with the advice of experts in traditional constructions. It is 34 meters long, 8 meters wide, which reproduces the living conditions of the Vikings. It is an open boat, that is, it does not have a cabin prepared to accommodate the occupants, so the rest is outdoors, under a tent, and with a constant smell of tar. The most impressive thing is its almost 300 square meters of sail.

Although the living conditions are harsh, at least the ship does have a modern navigation system, and in the event of any accident or eventuality, an auxiliary boat follows.

The journey is not over yet. And when they reach the Labrador peninsula, they want to continue the promotional trip by making stops at other ports on the Canadian coast and in the United States.

You can follow this trip on social networks, they have their own YouTube channel,  and material is being recorded to edit a later documentary.
