Profile of Spaniards who cruise according to CLIA

Spaniards like to cruise, that's at least what can be deduced from an online survey of 597 Spaniards who went on an ocean cruise in the last 12 months. The study was commissioned by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) to IRN Research.

The data say that 71% of Spaniards have made two or more cruises in their life, and 58% have done it three or more times, and 15% have traveled more than ten !!

More than half of the Spaniards who have made a cruise intend to repeat in less than a year. Those who travel the most are the Catalans, They are 21% of all Spaniards who make cruises, followed by Andalusians, 20%, Valencians, 15%, Madrid with 9% and 7% of the total come from the Canary Islands.

Regarding the type of public that hires a cruise is heterogeneous, 63% are under 50 years old, 52% traveled with their partner, 19% as a family with children, 10% with friends, 7% with a family without children, and 2% alone. This is the data that is collected when you have asked them about their last cruise.

As for the the destinations preferred by Spaniards the survey highlights 62% chose the Mediterranean Western, 8% the Norwegian Fjords, Iceland and the Baltic Sea, 7% the Black Sea, and 3% the European Northwest.

Almost everyone prefers hiring through a travel agency, 90% of cruises were hired in this way. And to decide on one or another company, this is the order of preferences:

  • Itinerary
  • value for money
  • if drinks are included in the final price
  • the environment
  • the entertainment offer
  • and the amenities they offer.
