Safety equipment on a boat, what is it for?

Today I want to tell you what is the purpose of the safety team of a cruise ship, which usually consists of a minimum of 6 to 15 people, in addition to 2 to 3 commanding officers, depending on the size of the ship and the area through which it transits that may be more or less dangerous.

The functions that this security equipment has are mainly keep order on board, that there is no one who passed the drinks "screwed up" or bothered the rest of the passengers, make inquiries and resolve any possible criminal act that has occurred on board and others that I detail later.

Another function of the security team is the control and organization of personnel, both for cruise passengers and the crew in the event of incidents dangerous to physical integrity such as a fire on board, for example. The security team has the ability to arrest both crew members and passengers, who once they arrive at port are placed in the hands of the competent authorities. The ships have a series of cabins dedicated to this function.

If during the journey you pass through conflictive areas, they are the ones who monitor and observe possible attacks.

They are also in charge of conducting bomb threat drills, fires, riots, kidnapping, man overboard or emergency situations with the crew.

To this security personnel you are required, at least, to have the title of Security Guard, advanced notions of English, and the title of operator of x-ray systems is valued. Some companies also value a police or military background, especially for management positions.

Regarding working hours and conditions, they are usually shifts of six to eight hours, with one day off a week. The duration of the contract is between 6 or 9 months on board.
