Tan Ping will decorate the hull of Norwegian Joy

Little by little I am learning more about Norwegian Joy, the new Norwegian Cruise Line ship, specially designed for the Chinese market. What I have now known is that the painter, illustrator and educator, Tan Ping, will design the drawing of the hull of this ship.

It is planned that Norwegian Joy begins sailing in summer 2017, with a base port in Shanghai and Beijing.

The theme that has been selected for the Norwegian Joy hull ornament is the Phoenix, a mythical bird that reigned over all the birds in the world, and that resurfaced every 200 years. This is a motif present in Chinese culture, where symbolizes beauty and good luck.

The design, of which we do not have any photos, they say is simple and elegant, with curved lines that flow forward, with a majestic balance. The color palette is dominated by reds and yellows. Red in China means joy and yellow greatness. As you can see, Tan Ping has not missed a detail when it comes to capturing the NCL's own philosophy regarding Norwegian Joy, which the company defines as a luxurious and technologically advanced boat that at the same time respects traditional Chinese values. Blue, as the color of the sea, also plays a leading role.

In the press release that has come to us from NCL, he defines the work of Tan Ping, halfway between art and design. His abstract paintings and copper engravings are part of important museum and private collections. His is the image design and landscaping project for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

If you want to know other interesting details about Norwegian Joy, which will have a capacity for more than 4000 people, I suggest you read this article.
