The MSC Cruises shipping company aims for the year 2022 double the capacity of its fleet, and for this it will invest 5.100 million dollars, almost 4.700 million euros, in building new ships. The first ship being commissioned to build the French shipyards STX France Will be called MSC Merviglia and will have as a base port Barcelona.
The delivery of the MSC Merviglia is scheduled for May 2017, but the tickets to get on board will begin to be marketed as of June of this year.
MSC Merviglia will be the largest ship that the shipping company has in Europe, and will incorporate technological advances and design innovations such as the ship's interior promenade, which will feature a 480-square-meter LED ceiling.
The ship will have capacity for 5.700 passengers and a tonnage of 167.600, it will sail with itineraries through the western Mediterranean, being the first to have three home ports: Genoa, Marseille and Barcelona.
The shipping company MSC Cruises has commissioned another ship identical to this one that will enter service in 2019. These ships will be joined by two more ships before 2022. Vista project, a project to create cleaner, smarter and more efficient ships.
During 2015 the company will increase its offer in the Spanish market by 66% thanks to its program to renew four ships, of which two of them will be based in the port of Barcelona, another that of Valencia and another will be positioned in Palma de Majorca.
