Starting in 2021, the new Virgin Voyages ships will sail the Mediterranean, and for a year before they will be sailing the Caribbean. As we already have in this article Tycoon Richard Branson's company will begin operating in the luxury cruise market, only for adult travel, without focusing on seniors.
The three ships of this new company are being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa, and will receive the generic name of Lady Ship.
We still do not have too many details of how this shipping company intends to break with the concept of tourist cruise, at this point there are so many different formulas that nothing seems to be able to break it, but simply add addicts to this way of traveling. But as the fact that they are cruises only for adults, will be one of their hallmarks, and in the words of Richard Brandson himself "wanting to live not the best week of the year, but the best week of their lives", with premium adult environment, interested in music (which becomes a leitmotif of the trip) and fun, but away from uncontrolled teenage parties.
The design of the Lady Ship ships is surprising. We know that the hulls will be almost gold, with tinted windows and a straight, habitable bow. Easily identifiable when you sail the sea with your red-tailed mermaids with a Virgin flag, one on each side of the ship.
The three will measure 278 meters long and 38 wide, with a capacity for 2.700 tourists, who are now called navigators in the company, to which 1.150 crew members must be added. They are based more on a luxury superyacht concept, since 86% of the cabins will have balconies to the sea.
Regarding the care of the environment, it will be another of the premises of Virgin Voyages, no animals will be used on the excursions, and the engines will have a hybrid gas cleaning system and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), which means that they will release very low emissions into the atmosphere.
